Bond Trading

Eligibility

• Individual Investors: Tanzanian citizens, EAC and SADC and residents.
• Institutional Investors: Corporates, pension funds, insurance companies, and other financial institutions.

Opening an Account

• CDS Account: Open a Central Depository System (CDS) account with Orbit Securities. This account is necessary for holding and trading bonds. (Link to the form)
• Required Documents: Provide identification (National ID or passport), Tin Number, and other relevant documentation.

Auction Process

• Announcement: The Bank of Tanzania announces auction details, including the type of bond, maturity period, and auction date.
• Bidding: Investors submit bids through Orbit Securities, specifying the amount they wish to invest and the yield they are seeking.
• Allocation: Bids are reviewed and bonds are allocated to successful bidders based on the auction results.

Auction Results

• Notification: The BoT announces the auction results, and successful bidders are notified.
• Bond Allocation: Bonds are allocated to successful bidders and credited to their CDS accounts.

Holding and Trading

• Interest Payments: Receive regular interest payments directly to your bank account twice a year, every six months.
• Maturity: At maturity, the principal amount is credited to your account.
